Add VAT to a net price or remove VAT from a gross price. Choose a country to load its standard rate, or type any rate yourself.
Formula and method
Adding VAT: VAT = net × (rate ÷ 100); gross = net + VAT.
Removing VAT: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100); VAT = gross − net.
Presets cover standard rates only. Source: European Commission — VAT rates applied in the EU Member States — last verified 2026-08-05.
Worked example
You invoice a German customer €100 net and the standard German rate of 19% applies.
VAT = €100 × 0.19 = €19, so the gross invoice is €119.
Reversing a €120 gross price at the 20% standard rate: €120 ÷ 1.20 = €100 net, with €20 of VAT.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I add VAT to a net price?
Multiply the net price by the VAT rate and add it. €100 net at 20% VAT is €100 + €20 = €120 gross.
How do I remove VAT from a gross price?
Divide the gross price by (1 + rate ÷ 100). €120 gross at 20% VAT is €120 ÷ 1.2 = €100 net, with €20 of VAT.
Are the country rates always correct?
The presets are standard rates only and may change. Reduced, super-reduced and zero rates apply to many goods and services, so always confirm the rate for your supply. You can override the rate at any time.
Which VAT rate applies to a cross-border sale?
It depends on what you sell, where your customer is and whether they are VAT registered. Distance selling, OSS/IOSS and reverse charge rules can all change the answer.
Does this tool file or register VAT for me?
