BNB price chart

This page shows BNB/USD, the price of one BNB token in US dollars, quoted as a spot price on the Binance exchange.

BNB trades continuously on Binance and other venues; the chart here reflects Binance's own order book specifically, which is also the exchange most closely associated with BNB's origin and ongoing token programme.

What is BNB / US Dollar?

BNB was launched in 2017 by the Binance exchange, originally as a token offering trading fee discounts. It has since become the native asset of the BNB Chain, a blockchain ecosystem supporting smart contracts and decentralised applications, distinct from the centralised Binance exchange itself.

BNB is used to pay fees within the Binance exchange and gas fees on BNB Chain, and Binance has periodically reduced BNB's total supply through scheduled token burns.

How to read this chart

A rising line means BNB is gaining value against the US dollar; falling means the opposite. As with other crypto pairs, trading is continuous with no formal weekly close.

Because BNB's history and issuer are closely tied to a single exchange, regulatory or operational developments affecting Binance specifically can move BNB's price more directly than for tokens with more distributed issuance. Scheduled burns reduce supply over time, and prices can differ between exchanges.

What moves it?

Binance exchange volumes
As BNB is used for exchange fee discounts and other Binance-platform benefits, trading activity on Binance itself can influence demand for BNB.
Token burns
Binance conducts periodic token burns that permanently remove BNB from circulation, reducing total supply over time according to a published schedule and formula.
BNB Chain activity
Usage of decentralised applications and transaction volume on BNB Chain affects demand for BNB as the network's gas token.
Regulatory risk concentrated in one issuer
Because BNB's history is closely linked to a single exchange group, regulatory actions or legal developments concerning Binance can have an outsized effect on BNB's price relative to more decentralised tokens.

Why businesses and investors monitor it

Firms with exposure to the Binance exchange ecosystem, or building on BNB Chain, track this price for operational and treasury purposes. It also serves as an indicator of sentiment toward exchange-linked tokens more broadly.

BNB vs Ethereum

BNB Chain and Ethereum are both smart-contract platforms, but they differ in governance and origin: Ethereum was designed from inception as a decentralised, permissionless network, while BNB Chain has closer institutional ties to the Binance exchange group.

Comparing BNB/USD with ETH/USD can highlight differences in how the market prices tokens with more centralised issuer risk against more broadly decentralised platform tokens.

Frequently asked questions

What was BNB originally created for?

BNB launched in 2017 as a utility token offering discounted trading fees on the Binance exchange, before expanding into the native gas token of BNB Chain.

What are BNB's token burns?

Binance periodically destroys a portion of BNB supply according to a published schedule and formula, permanently reducing the total number of tokens in circulation.

Is BNB Chain the same as the Binance exchange?

No. Binance is a centralised cryptocurrency exchange; BNB Chain is a separate blockchain network that BNB also serves as the native gas token for, though the two are closely associated.

Why is BNB considered to carry concentrated regulatory risk?

Because BNB's issuance and prominence are closely tied to the Binance exchange group, legal or regulatory actions against Binance specifically can affect BNB's price more directly than tokens with more dispersed issuance.
