Total crypto market capitalisation chart
This page shows the total crypto market capitalisation, a calculation by TradingView that sums the market capitalisation (circulating supply multiplied by price) of tracked cryptoassets, expressed as CRYPTOCAP:TOTAL.
This is an aggregated statistic, not a tradable spot instrument: it represents the estimated total value of the cryptoasset market rather than the price of any single coin or token.

What is Total crypto market cap?
Total crypto market capitalisation is calculated by multiplying the circulating supply of each tracked cryptoasset by its current price, then summing these values across the market. This differs fundamentally from a single asset's price, which reflects only the exchange rate for one unit of that asset.
Because market capitalisation depends on both price and circulating supply, it can move for reasons unrelated to any individual coin's price change, such as new asset listings being added to the calculation or large changes in a token's reported circulating supply.
How to read this chart
A rising line means the estimated aggregate value of the tracked cryptoasset market is increasing; falling means the opposite. As with individual crypto pairs, the underlying data updates continuously, so there is no formal session close or weekend gap.
Movements in total market cap can be driven disproportionately by a small number of large assets, particularly bitcoin, so this figure should not be read as an equally weighted measure of the whole market. Newly added assets, delistings and supply data revisions can also cause the aggregate to shift independent of underlying price action.
What moves it?
- Bitcoin dominance
- Because bitcoin represents a large share of total market capitalisation, its price moves have an outsized effect on the aggregate figure.
- Stablecoin supply growth
- Growth or contraction in the supply of major stablecoins reflects capital moving into or out of the crypto market and can be a leading indicator for broader market capitalisation changes.
- New asset listings
- The addition of newly tracked cryptoassets to market-cap calculations can increase the aggregate figure independent of price moves in previously tracked assets.
- Broad risk sentiment and macro conditions
- General risk appetite, US monetary policy and dollar liquidity conditions influence flows into and out of the crypto market as a whole.
Why businesses and investors monitor it
Businesses assessing the overall size and health of the crypto sector, rather than a single asset, use total market capitalisation as a broad gauge of sector-wide risk appetite and capital flows.

Total market cap vs bitcoin
Comparing total crypto market capitalisation with the bitcoin price shows how much of overall market movement is attributable to bitcoin specifically versus the rest of the crypto asset universe.
A rising total market cap alongside a falling or flat bitcoin dominance share indicates that non-bitcoin assets are driving aggregate growth, and vice versa.
Frequently asked questions
Is total crypto market cap something I can buy or trade?
No. It is a calculated aggregate statistic, not a tradable instrument, unlike the individual cryptoasset spot pairs shown elsewhere on this site.
Why might total market cap rise even if bitcoin's price falls?
Because the aggregate sums many assets, gains in other cryptoassets, or the addition of newly tracked assets, can outweigh a decline in any single asset including bitcoin.
What is bitcoin dominance?
Bitcoin dominance is bitcoin's market capitalisation expressed as a share of total crypto market capitalisation, used to gauge how concentrated the market is in bitcoin versus other assets.
How is market capitalisation calculated for each asset?
It is generally calculated as an asset's circulating supply multiplied by its current price, though methodologies for defining circulating supply can vary between data providers.
