An EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number identifies a business to customs authorities. It goes on import and export declarations, and brokers and carriers routinely refuse to move goods without one.

Is an EORI the same as a VAT number?
No. They are separate identifiers issued for different purposes, although in some countries an EORI is derived from the VAT number. You can need one without the other.
Do I need an EU EORI as well as a GB EORI?
It depends on whether your business acts as importer or exporter inside the EU. If your customer or a representative handles the EU side, you may not. A customs specialist can confirm based on your incoterms and flows.
